p-drwiesmanAt The Art of Rhinoplasty, our talented Chicago cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Gary Wiesman, offers so much more than a “nose job.” His skilled hands are able to accurately and expertly assist patients with a wide range of nose problems from a deviated septum to sinus dilation. When it comes to treating nasal concerns, there’s no better option than a facial cosmetic surgeon who is also a board-certified otolaryngologist (ear, nose and throat doctor). Having performed countless facial surgeries over 25 years in practice, Dr. Wiesman is able to provide the most skilled, comfortable, state-of-the-art surgical care for any type of nose problem in Chicago. If you feel your nose is too big, too little, too sharp or curved, or if you have problems breathing through your nose or experience frequent congestion or sinus infections, contact Dr. Wiesman at The Art of Rhinoplasty.

Types of Nose Problems We Correct

  • Deviated septum – the treatment for deviated septum (the separation between nostrils) is known as septoplasty. This procedure may be necessary to correct a deviated nasal septum – a displacement of the bone and cartilage that divides your two nostrils. During septoplasty, your nasal septum is straightened and repositioned in the middle of your nose to help alleviate breathing difficulties.
  • In-office balloon sinus dilation – one of the most innovative treatment options available, balloon sinus dilation expands the nasal passages to treat symptoms of sinusitis (chronic sinus infection). This in-office procedure uses a balloon to gently open and reshape nasal passages.
  • Chronic nasal congestion treatment – one solution for chronic congestion is turbinate reduction. Turbinates are tissues in the nose that filter air as we breathe. When turbinates become enlarged due to allergies, infections, or irritation, patients typically receive treatment using antihistamines or antibiotics. When turbinates do not respond to this treatment, surgical reduction may be necessary. The surgery removes the submucosal tissue leaving the mucosal layer to filter and humidify air. The procedure uses radio waves to remove tissue inside the turbinate. The procedure can be performed in less than an hour.
  • Removal of nasal polyps – nasal polyps are typically not cancerous, but they can be painful and obstruct breathing. In some cases, polyps can be reduced in size using medication. For those polyps that are not responsive to medicinal therapy, a polypectomy (removal of the polyp) may be necessary.
  • Adenoid surgery – typically performed on children, adenoidectomy is the removal of the small adenoid glands. These glands help fight ear, nose, and throat infections, but often become inflamed or infected themselves – requiring removal. Most commonly, adenoids are removed as part of a tonsillectomy.

rhinoplasty chicagoYou know that feeling you get when you have a cold or allergy symptoms – your nose feels congested, breathing is strained, and snoring and mouth breathing are common. Imagine feeling like that every day. For many people with a deviated septum or nasal valve irregularities, difficulty breathing through their nose is a way of life. The good news is that Dr. Gary Wiesman  can help. Dr. Wiesman performs both functional and cosmetic rhinoplasty procedures.

What is a Functional Rhinoplasty?

Functional Rhinoplasty is corrective nasal surgery to improve breathing. The procedure could include a septoplasty to straighten a deviated septum, as well as repair of nasal valves or other structural abnormalities in the nasal cavities.

Breathe Better.  Feel Better, with Functional Rhinoplasty

Many patients live most of their lives without realizing that they have a crooked septum or nasal valve irregularity. Luckily, these conditions are easily corrected with functional rhinoplasty. Some signs you may need functional rhinoplasty:

  • Breathing is strained (especially after exercise)
  • Inability to breathe through the nose (blockage)
  • Pressure or pain when breathing through the nose
  • Loud snoring
  • Frequent headaches

Dr. Wiesman is a board-certified Otolaryngologist (ear, nose, and throat doctor).   His specialty is performing nose jobs that make his patients not only look better, but breathe better.

Cosmetic Rhinoplasty

We also provide cosmetic rhinoplasty for patients interested in changing the shape and appearance of their nose to achieve a more natural and harmonious balance with other facial features.

Who Says Beauty is Only Skin Deep?

The size and shape of your nose completely alters your facial features, and patients who want to enhance their natural beauty through rhinoplasty know that beauty is much more than skin deep. Many patients desire cosmetic rhinoplasty to:

  • Reduce the width of the nose
  • Narrow or widen the bridge or tip of the nose
  • Straighten the nose
  • Lengthen or shorten the nose
  • Remove a bump or depression on the bridge of the nose
  • Reduce enlarged or excessively flared nostrils

After a brief healing period, you will have the naturally beautiful nose you desire to compliment your profile and enhance your self-image. View some of our stunning results in the rhinoplasty gallery.

Exceptional Sinus Surgery Success with the PROPEL Sinus Implant in Chicago, IL

February 24, 2015

178094009Individuals with chronic sinusitis frequently experience facial pain, persistent headaches, difficulty breathing, and an impaired sense of smell and/or taste. This condition, which affects approximately 31 million Americans, can greatly diminish quality of life on a daily basis. Fortunately, sinus surgery can alleviate the symptoms of chronic sinusitis by opening the obstructed passages for improved function and comfort. Now, with the revolutionary new PROPEL sinus implant, board certified otolaryngologist Dr. Gary Wiesman helps sinus surgery patients achieve vastly improved, long-lasting results at his state-of-the-art practice in Chicago, IL.

How Does the PROPEL Sinus Implant Work?

The PROPEL sinus implant is a spring-like, dissolvable implant that props open the sinus walls following surgery to maintain the opening created by the procedure. The expanded implant then gradually and consistently delivers an anti-inflammatory corticosteroid to the sinus lining, a proven medication called mometasone furoate.

As it reduces inflammation, the implant also ensures that the enlargement of the sinuses is maintained, all the while reducing the risk of scarring. Because the implant dissolves completely over time, there is no need to worry about having it replaced or removed. Always at the forefront of the latest technology, Dr. Gary Wiesman is one of only a few physicians in Chicago to offer this innovative new product, the PROPEL sinus implant. Board certified in both otolaryngology and facial plastic surgery, Dr. Wiesman can help you not only breathe better, but help you achieve your cosmetic goals as well so that you can look as good as you feel.

Additional Benefits for Sinusitis Sufferers

In addition to promoting improved healing following sinus surgery, the PROPEL sinus implant effectively reduces or eliminates the need for systemic anti-inflammatory medications in pill form. Many of these oral steroids have been linked to health complications, particularly in patients for whom a drug interaction is a potential risk. The implant’s ability to deliver the anti-inflammatory medication directly to the sinus lining is among the product’s chief benefits. Reducing swelling after sinus surgery helps alleviate the recurrence of congestion and pain.
