While it is important to note that each person\u2019s experience is unique, this blog post provides some generalized information to prepare you for the road ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Long Does Recovery Take?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is a basic overview of the average recovery timeline:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The first week: <\/strong>During this time, you may have to wear a splint to protect your nose. Bruising, swelling, and general discomfort are common.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The first month:<\/strong> Within the first month, bruising and swelling should significantly subside. As long as your job does not involve strenuous physical activity, you should be able to go back to work within 2 \u2013 4 weeks after your procedure.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Within the first year:<\/strong> Swelling should be largely gone within a few months of your surgery, but subtle changes in the shape of your nose may occur throughout the first 12 months following your procedure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Support Your Body\u2019s Healing Process<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You can help your body to heal as quickly and efficiently as possible if you carefully follow your facial plastic surgeon\u2019s post-op instructions. They may advise you to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Get plenty of rest! You should avoid strenuous physical activity for at least six weeks. When you resume working out, wear a protective nose shield if you are doing anything where you might fall down or get hit by a ball.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep your head elevated and use cold compresses to reduce swelling.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoid blowing your nose or making facial expressions that could put pressure on your nose for at least several weeks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Minimize sun exposure.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not wear glasses. Instead, use contacts until your facial plastic surgeon informs you that you can start wearing glasses again.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not smoke.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Eat a balanced diet that is rich in nutrients that support overall health.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attend all recommended follow-up appointments with your facial plastic surgeon.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ask for Help if You Need It<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Complications after rhinoplasty are relatively rare, but if you ever suspect that something is not quite right during your recovery period, do not hesitate to contact your facial plastic surgeon.
